Nathaniel Facey & Balázs József Trio

The son of Jamaican parents, London born alto-saxophonist, NATHANIEL FACEY grew up to the sounds of gospel, ska, country, soul and the pop music of the day. He first played the guitar but when the school orchestra he played in had no sax-player, he switched to that instrument and never looked back. When he woke up to the joys of improvisation he formed his first jazz group with his childhood friend, the drummer Shaney Forbes with which he got as far as Canada. Later he graduated to the elite formation of black British jazzers, Gary Crosby’s Tomorrow’s Warriors, after which he formed, again with Shaney Forbes his up to this day immensely popular quartet, Empirical which is one of the emblematic outfits of today’s young British modernists. He has also played with the likes of Jason Moran, Jack DeJohnette, Billy Jenkins and Courtney Pine and was hugely successful both at the Cheltenham International and the North Sea Jazz Festivals. Facey is one of the most original and innovative young British sax-players today. During his first and only appearance in Hungary he will be accompanied by Hungarian musicians of equal ranking in the person of pianist JÓZSEF BALÁZS, drummer ELEMÉR BALÁZS and bassist KRISZTIÁN PECEK LAKATOS.
