Bexley Grammar School has toured across Europe and performed at numerous impressive locations, including singing Mass at: Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris (2011), Strasbourg Cathedral (2010), the Basilica Dei Frari in Venice (2009), and prior to this at the Duomo, Florence and Cologne Cathedral.

Successes at home include being National Finalists in two categories at the 2009 National Festival of Music for Youth, and the concert band are once again performing at the South Bank Centre as part of the Regional Festival in March 2015.

Our annual musical production is always of an extremely high standard, and has won several awards from the local Arts Council in the last three years (best youth theatre production, best music, etc.) 

 

Bexley Grammar School – Groups and Repertoire

Touring with us this year is the Bexley Grammar School Choir – an approximately 40 strong choir for SATB voices. They sing a wide range of repertoire at a high standard; recent concerts have included excerpts from Handel’s Messiah (Dec 2010), Mozart’s Requiem (2009), Messe Basse by Faure (performed at Mass at Strasbourg Cathedral 2010), Calmes Des Nuits by Saint Saens and Bruckner’s Locus Iste (performed at Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris in 2011). Our lighter repertoire includes Stand By Me, I’m a train, Blue Moon, gospel numbers, It’s My Life, Mr Blue Sky, Skyfall and

We have a mixed Barbershop ensemble who perform at a high standard, and who frequently provide entertainment not only at school events but in the local borough. Recent repertoire has included Go the Distance, Mary-Lou, Marry a Woman, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, La La La, Don’t Stop Believing.

We have a pop band who will accompany the choir, performing hits such as Valerie, Pompeii, Back to Black, and the Big Band (20 players) are often the highlight of our concerts, has a large repertoire of music ranging from classic 1920s big band (Glen Miller) through 70’s classics (the theme from TV show ‘Shaft’), to contemporary jazz.
