Joey Calderazzo was born in a musician family, and he started to learn classical music at the age of seven. When he was 17, he was already playing with the big names of NYC. From 1987, he was a character of the Michael Brecker Quintet's tours. His first album appeared at Blue Note Records in 1990, on which he played with Jerry Bergonzi and Branford Marsalis. Their musical bond with the latter became very tight,  and from 1998, he replaced Kenny Kirkland in Marsalis's quartet called Buckshot LeFonque. He has also performed and made albums with several other musicians, such as Rick Margitza, Bob Mintzer, George Garzone and Vincent Herring.

In 2003, he decided he decided to go solo with an album and a European tour.

His trio became one of the most exciting bands in the contemporary jazz scene in a gentle and systematic way. Calderazzo believes in spontaneity, everything is decided at the very moment the musicians start to play. There is a continuous dialogue between the drummer, the bassist and himself.
