A week in the spell of free improvisation at the Budapest Jazz Club!
The last week of 2026 May will primarily delight dedicated “jazzers,” as the spotlight turns to one of the most authentic elements of the genre: the freedom of improvisation, and within that, the joy of spontaneous music-making — better known internationally as jam sessions.
The essence of a jam session lies in the pure pleasure of playing together spontaneously, where musicians connect freely, respond to one another, and react to the audience’s energy. The invited base bands — typically trios — welcome anyone who knows the timeless jazz standards and can contribute musically in a way that enriches both the performance and the listening experience.
