The concert of the BJC Big Band focuses on the compositional world of Gordon Goodwin, featuring a program consisting exclusively of his big band works. Goodwin’s compositions represent one of the high points of modern large-ensemble jazz: they are technically demanding, rhythmically complex, yet direct and energetic. Throughout the evening, every section of the big band is given a prominent role, with orchestration and improvisation appearing as equally important elements. This concert is a celebration of Gordon Goodwin’s music, performed with a full big band lineup.

The BJC Big Band was founded in 2017 by trumpeter Dávid Csizmadia and serves as the resident big band of the Budapest Jazz Club. For its members—active and highly sought-after musicians in various other ensembles—every opportunity to perform in this formation is a true musical joy. Despite their relatively short history, the band has already performed with leading international musicians, including lead trumpeters Eric Miyashiro, Louis Dowdeswell, and Ryan Quigley.
