The FARKAS GÁBRIEL BAND jazz ensemble, known for its decades-long series of themed club concerts, has moved its shows to the Budapest Jazz Club starting this autumn.
In November, Gábriel’s jazz trio expands with a guitarist and four horn players to form the FARKAS GÁBRIEL SHOWBAND, bringing us the greatest hits of Broadway from the 1920s to today. From Cole Porter to Liza Minnelli, the evening presents a vibrant selection from the most exciting moments in the history of Broadway musicals. For Gábriel, the most fascinating songs from musical theatre are those that have transcended the stage to become jazz standards and timeless evergreens. The classic vaudeville shows were light-hearted revue-style musicals — pure entertainment with popular dance music, jazz, talented singers, musicians, and dancers. It’s no coincidence that George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Duke Ellington all became famous through their musical works.
Broadway Night is a musical and jazz concert where outstanding jazz musicians perform original Broadway arrangements alongside jazz-standard versions of the songs in dazzling harmony. The program includes highlights from two of Gábriel’s most successful theatre productions — Liza & Me and Night & Day — as well as classic jazz numbers that many may not realize originated in stage musicals. This concert offers audiences the joy of rediscovering these timeless pieces in a fresh new light.
Gábriel’s rich voice, exceptional stage presence, and the virtuosity of his accompanying musicians guarantee an evening of pure delight and unforgettable entertainment.
Gábriel Farkas – vocals, Attila Juhász – piano, Tamás Berdisz – drums, Attila Rieger – guitar, Bubu Farkas – bass, János Hámori – trumpet, Abbas Murád – trombone, Balázs Nagy – tenor saxophone, clarinet, Balázs Cserta – alto saxophone, clarinet, flute
