Even by international standards, this is one of the best and most original big bands I’ve heard int he last 10-15 years! It specializes on introducing original scores by Hungarian composers. The band unites the cream of Hungary’s new and middle generation of jazzmen. All of them are strong personalities, quite a few of them lead their own bands as well as compose and arrange their own music. The conventional big band set-up is augmented by instruments unusual in modern jazz and the sound is refreshingly different without it being outrageous. A vote of thanks to their leader: trumpeter and fluegelhorn player, arranger and composer Kornel Fekete-Kovacs for the heroic and inspired effort of getting and keeping together this great band which is always massive fun to listen to!
