World Stars at Budapest Jazz Club: Raul Midón - Lost & Found
Raul Midón is described by The New York Times Magazine as a one-man band, primarily because he creates a uniquely rich concert sound through his percussive guitar technique reminiscent of drum accompaniment, one-handed conga playing, and sounds produced by muting the guitar strings rather than plucking them. All the while, he sings with effortless ease or even plays the trumpet—without an instrument—masterfully imitating the distinctive timbre of the brass instrument using only his mouth.
Born in New Mexico, the guitarist-singer’s career truly flourished in New York. He rose to public prominence in 2006 with his song State of Mind, which has since amassed nearly 3 million views on YouTube. In recent years, he has also appeared as a guest on TED Talks and the hugely popular Tiny Desk concert series. Dubbed an “eclectic adventurer” by People magazine, the artist has collaborated over the years with Sting, Herbie Hancock, Snoop Dogg, and Richard Bona.
In Hungary, he has performed only twice so far: first in 2016 at the invitation of the Budapest Jazz Orchestra, giving a concert at MOM Kult, and later in 2022 at the BJC, both performances remaining memorable to this day.
At this concert, he will present his 2024 album Lost & Found to both new and longtime fans.
