UNESCO JAZZDAY FESTIVAL: Révész Richárd Latin Quartet feat. Yulaysi Miranda & Elisabeth Herrera - Son night
On this evening, the Budapest Jazz Club will come alive once again! The Révész Richárd Latin Quartet will be joined by special guests: Cuban singer Yulaysi Miranda and the virtuoso flutist Elizabeth Herrera, also of Cuban origin. Passionate Latin rhythms, sweeping improvisations, and an authentic Caribbean atmosphere await the audience for a night where the meeting of jazz and Latin music is guaranteed to captivate listeners.
Son is a musical and dance genre that originated in the mountainous regions of eastern Cuba at the end of the 19th century. It is a fusion of Spanish and African elements. Its essential Spanish components include vocal style, lyrical tempo, and the lightness derived from Spanish guitar playing, while its distinctive features also include syncopated rhythms and a call-and-response structure. The international emergence of son dates back to the 1930s, when numerous bands toured Europe and North America, bringing the genre into ballrooms as well. In the 1960s, salsa achieved great success in New York’s music scene and helped boost the popularity of other Latin American styles.
