In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Shorty Rogers completely revitalized the sound of the Woody Herman and Stan Kenton orchestras. Following this, he established the West Coast sound at the helm of his own formation. Though categorized within the „cool” school, his music was far from abstract; rather, it was joyful, lively, and yet, by the standards of its time, undeniably modern. Tonight, the Budapest Jazz Orchestra, formed in 1998 and Hungary’s most popular big band, will perform his compositions.
