Horváth Cintia was already successful as a music student, but her star still keeps rising as she leads her own group and joins one of the greatest Hungarian jazz bands.

Balázs József is the leader and arranger of the East Gipsy Band which was immensely successful both at New York’s famous Blue Note and at the Detroit Jazz Festival, and he also happens to be one of the best jazz pianists in Hungary.

Cseke Gábor is an incredibly versatile pianist, who  has  co-worked  in  many  important Hungarian bands.

Jazz critic Dave Gelly of The Observer has described her as “one of the most stylistically flexible pianists around, with a marvellous, slightly husky singing voice”.

The program is rooted in the traditions of hard bop and, alongside original compositions, features works by legendary composers such as Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, and Joe Henderson.

The music of the new formation is characterized by exciting bass rhythms and melodic lines built on innovative, yet refined, harmonies that also incorporate classical musical influences.

Intense deepness and purity can be located easily along with continuous stressing of boundaries, and sudden appearance of unexpected, startling sounds.

The band has held an outstandingly successful show in the 606 Club in London, which led to a regular Hungarian-British jazz performance exchange program. 

The phenomenal British pianist Tim Lapthorn leads one of the best piano trios in the UK and also plays piano in groups led by, amongst others, singer Ian Shaw, bassist Arnie Somogyi (Ambulance featuring Eddie Henderson), saxophonist Frank Griffith and, BBC Jazz Award Nominee, singer Polly Gibbons.

The Balkan Jazz Project is the latest formation assembled by Mihaly Borbely for which he has picked the most like-minded musicians.

The brilliant young Hungarian tenorman produces a beautiful, muscular, dark tone on his horn, plays jazz that sounds like jazz, he is a soulful hard bop player, so true lovers of the genre will absolutely love him.
